Crosby Stills Nash & Young: Deja Vu 50th Anniversary 4CD/1Vinyl Record BoxSet_Free Shipping via USPS media mail.
This set is a 4CD+LP package that offers a “pristine version” newly remastered original album on 180g vinyl and newly remastered on CD along with three more CDs packed with hours of rare and unreleased studio recordings that provide incredible insight into the making of the record.
This set includes 38 bonus tracks, delivering nearly two-and-a-half hours of music that includes demos, outtakes, and alternate takes – most of which (29 to be specific) are previously unreleased.
This includes ‘Know You Got To Run’, the first song the quartet recorded during its first session on 15 July at the house Stills was renting from Peter Tork in Studio City. Other unreleased highlights include the demo for Crosby’s ‘Almost Cut My Hair’; Stills’ outtake for ‘Bluebird Revisited’; and Young’s alternate version of ‘Helpless’ featuring harmonica. Also included is a version of ‘Our House’ that features Nash singing with the song’s inspiration, Joni Mitchell.
The previously unheard alternates for eight of the ten tunes (Young’s ‘Country Girl’ is not surprisingly absent, while the “harmonica version” of ‘Helpless’ found its way onto his own Archives Vol. 1) show how the songs morphed into their final state. It alone is worth hearing for those who have lived with this album for decades. Most of the other raw outtakes and demos are interesting and occasionally enlightening but geared to the hardest of their core fans, of which Déjà Vu undoubtedly has many. Still, they are essential to appreciating and understanding the roots of the album. Some, such as a cover of John Sebastian’s stunning ballad ‘How Have You Been’ by CSN are particularly poignant – evidence of how potent the trio could be when they contributed to the common good.
Like many of Rhino’s deluxe sets, this comes as a 12? x 12? hardcover book (with textured surface with gold foil stamp) with rare photos and sleeve notes by Cameron Crowe (through stories told by the people who were there, including David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, and Neil Young). The 18-page accompanying book is filled with rare, generally unpublished photos of the participants in various combinations, all in the same sepia tint that characterized the original vinyl’s retro artistic vision. This is classy and complete retrospective reissue of a familiar album. It’s likely the last word on how the disparate musical and personal threads of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young were woven, creating the uneven yet tremendously successful and often musically spellbinding tapestry of Déjà Vu.
This box set is in SUPERB condition. Each CD was carefully removed once and then returned to it's respective slot. The vinyl record has not been played- and removed only/delicately for the photo in this ad. As you can see in the photos, the booklet is clean and has not been read. It was also opened just for photographing. Note that the plastic wrap is still draped over the box! The photos you see here are all of the very box set I am offering for sale.
