This auction is for an original, personally-signed, 1st UK pressing of the (Dame) Shirley Bassey album Love, Life And Feelings, released in 1976 on the United Artists label.
Even though she was no longer seriously impacting the music sales charts on a regular basis by the mid 1970s, Shirley Bassey’s star just seemed to get brighter and brighter as the decade wore on. She was playing packed out concert tours around the world and the quality of her recordings showed just how intuitively natural her powers of musical interpretation had become. After experimenting with an album recorded in America (1974’s Nobody Does it Like Me), she returned to working in the UK and released a pair of excellent but seriously underrated long players: Good Bad But Beautiful (1975) and Love, Life And Feelings (1976).
The latter, which got to 13th place in the UK album chart and was to be Miss Bassey’s last top twenty long-player, included Natali, co-written by Norman Newell - who had also co-composed Never Never Never - and released as a single, Gilbert O’Sullivan’s Alone Again (Naturally), Midnight Blue (Melissa Manchester/Carole Bayer Sager), Randy Edelman’s Isn’t It A Shame and The Hungry Years (Neil Sedaka/Howard Greenfield).
The stunning cover design would also be used for her 1976 UK concert tour when the central circular section was cut out to form a window with the elegant photo of Miss Bassey seen through that window on the inner page. The 1st UK pressing album offered here was also personally autographed - see photo - for the owner after one of Miss Bassey’s concerts on that 1976 tour.
Condition The vinyl has been well looked-after, having been played relatively few times and kept in a poly-lined inner sleeve - included here - since purchase and, as a result, the playing surfaces are still very shiny and, when viewed in direct light, have no obvious surface marks. And a pre-auction play-through shows that, from the moment the needle enters the run-in groove on each side to the time it leaves the run-off, you hear a full-bodied and clear sound which is every bit as pleasing as its appearance, with no obvious extraneous sounds during the tracks and just minimal - if any - surface noise on the run-ins/run-offs and between the tracks. So, taking all this into account, the vinyl is graded “mint (-)”.
Also, as might be expected from an album that has been played so little, the cream labels have no obvious wear to the spindle hole, no marks around it, nor any writing, stains, labels or any other kind of blemish and, consequently, they are also rated “mint (-)”.
The sleeve, which has also been kept in a sturdy plastic cover since purchase, is a fully-laminated single pocket designed by Cabalka Studio. At around 46 years old, it shows very little of its age: about the most noticeable sign is a little laminate lifting on the back both by the lower half of the spine and near the open edge, while there are a few very small laminate creases near the spine on the front.
Otherwise though, this sleeve is in quite superb condition for its age, with clear vibrant colouring, no seam wear/splits, a clear and well-formed spine, straight/clean edges and smooth, clean, almost glowing surfaces with no colour fade, no tears, no writing, no - other - stains or any other noticeable deterioration and, on this basis, is graded “mint (-)”. There is also a polylined inner sleeve.

I accept payment via PayPal ONLY, so a PayPal account is required for you to bid and, as I require payment to be completed within 4 days of auction close, you MUST HAVE SUFFICIENT FUNDS in your (Paypal) account at the time of the auction closing, because payment by e-cheque - the way Paypal makes payments when there are insufficient funds to make an instant payment - will not usually arrive within the 4 days I allow. Please do not ask me to make an exception in your case as I no longer respond to these requests and have made my payment preferences clear at the start of this paragraph.

You may bid on multiple auctions ending on different days if the last auction ends seven days or less after the first. If you are bidding or want to bid on more than one of my auctions, please let me know after you win the first item/auction, so I know to delay sending your invoice until you tell me that you have finished bidding, You may pay for items at any time, but if you win multiple items you must then ensure that you complete full payment for them within four days of my sending the final invoice.

If payment is not received within the specified time and via the payment method I have specified, the item may go to the next highest bidder or be relisted. If appropriate I will file non-paying bidder alerts with Ebay in order to recover my final value fees & will block that bidder from my future auctions and - if payment is only received as a result of my filing non-paying bidder - I will not accept a return or offer a refund if you subsequently have a complaint.

POSTAGE & SHIPPING

Postage rates are specified on each auction. (Not advised, but parcel post and surface mail rates are avaiIable if desired-please ask). I always weigh items for postage costs, and allow a bit extra for the packaging. I put a lot of effort and care into packaging, and often use custom, cut to fit sturdy cardboard, tubes, etc.. that has given excellent delivery results over the past 6 years. I will be happy to combine multiple purchases and hopefully be able to reduce the postage costs on your total. Royal Mail includes compensation cover (insurance) free on values currently up to £40 and, in some circumstances. I may add insurance on items over that amount for my own protection and yours.

I now normally ship twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays (if a holiday then the following day). Your package will usually be posted no later than the first Tuesday or Friday following payment, and I shall notify you when it has been mailed.
