The Original RANWOOD Release In Stereo! From DAMITA JO... the "Miss Damita Jo" album... The RANWOOD record number is: #RLP 8037. The vinyl is in VG++ condition with very little scuffing or scratching (test played on a B&O turntable with a very light setting). A great play that you will be thrilled with! The cover is in nice condition with no splits or ring wear. It has a light crease to the left corner and 2 promotion hole in the bottom left. There is no writing on this beautiful cover. A very hard to find album and a great play! You will be pleased to add this to your collection!
Biography
Damita Jo (b. Damita Jo DuBlanc) is best remembered for her answer songs, "I'll Save The Last Dance For You" (1960, in answer to the Drifters' "Save The Last Dance For Me") and "I'll Be There" (1961, in answer to Ben E. King's "Stand By Me"). These songs are exceptional in that they were both Top 40 hits, which is rare for answer songs. Damita Jo was a featured singer with Steve Gibson and the Red Caps and a regular on Redd Foxx's TV variety show. Damita also recorded 'I Had Someone Else Before I Had You' and 'I'll Get Along Somehow'. Her 1961 single 'I'll Be There' reached number 12 on the pop charts and was a number 15 R & B hit. She passed away on Christmas Day in 1998 following a respiratory illness. In 2004, the singer Janet Jackson named her latest album after Damita, stating, 'Damita Jo is one of the characters that lives inside of me'.
