Danzig II: LUCIFUGE
LUCIFUGE, despite having no explicit lyrics, is given the explicit content warning label. Rubin embraces it; his new distribution partner Geffen Records does not, and insists their logo be left off the release. The album bears no radio singles yet lands on the Billboard 200 and camps out there for 13 weeks. Four music videos are made.
The LP cover is tame: just faces against a black background with the band name and album title. Unmistakable to collectors.
This is the finest he's ever sounded on record. The track sequence and pacing is perfection. With a bluesy drawl, Glenn delivers these 11 tracks that no one with this record even once hesitated to belt out with him.
It's a no-skips album.

1986
On the urging of Metallica's Cliff Burton, young producer Rick Rubin attends a metal showcase to see a singer admired by Burton and James Hetfield. Glenn Danzig, formerly of The Misfits, is performing in Samhain, at the time including Glenn and Eerie Vonn at its core.
July 14, 1986
Rick Rubin signs the group to Def Jam. Rubin was a brilliant producer who founded Def Jam Recordings while still a student in the dorm at New York University. His production credits in 1986 already included Slayer's monumental "Reign In Blood," and several seminal hip-hop albums by Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and Beastie Boys.
1987
Samhain, having changed guitarists and drummers, changes its name to DANZIG.
1988
Rubin and Def Jam's co-exec Russell Simmons part ways. Rubin forms Def American Recordings and brings to his new label several of the artists he'd initially signed, Danzig among them. Simply titled "Danzig," the band's first release is the first title issued by Def American, August 30, 1988. The band linep is Glenn Danzig on vocals, Eerie Von on bass, Chuck Biscuits on drums, and John Christ on guitar. This lineup would persist, unchanged, through 5 albums, through world tours and well into the mid-90s.
1989
Rubin brings Danzig back to record a follow-up. The process of writing and recording this second album are the longest of Danzig's creative career in producing a release. At the end of 11 months, on June 26, 1990, the result was—is—and will always be—one of the greatest metal albums of all time...
