Description

Daucus Karota was one of the numerous side projects of onetime Christian Death frontman Rozz Williams. After leaving the goth rock pioneers in 1985, Williams lay low for a time, then returned in the late '80s with several different bands, some of which had a more experimental and industrial bent. Daucus Karota, by contrast, was perhaps the most straightforward rock outfit of any of them, even more so than Williams' main outlet of the time, the goth-oriented Shadow Project. Daucus Karota drew heavily on Williams' roots in British glam and early punk, especially David Bowie, Roxy Music, the New York Dolls, and the Stooges. The name Daucus Karota -- taken from a character in the literary anthology The Drug Experience -- actually dated from the earliest days of Christian Death. When that band's original lineup dissolved in 1982, Williams joined up with the members of Pompeii 99, but wound up keeping the Christian Death name instead of adopting the proposed Daucus Karota moniker.
Produced by Iggy-Bowie alumnus Hunts Sales.
