DAVE BERRY ACETATE NOT FADE AWAY DECCA very rare not issued on 45 in UK
On auction is:
a rare DAVE BERRY metal ACETATE recording of NOT FADE AWAY c/w HOOCHIE COOCHIE MAN on a DECCA GROUP ADVANCE TEST RECORDING blue label disc.
Not fade away was not released in the UK on a Dave Berry single: whereas Hoochie Coochie man was released as the flip-side of My baby left me [a 1963 single release for Dave Berry].
The acetate has blue printed labels – but someone has written an A on the Not fade away side – suggesting this was the main cut of the two. Given that the Rolling Stones released their version of Not fade away on the DECCA label in 1964 it is hardly surprising that Decca did not release Dave’s version as an A side single. But it was included on the 1964 Dave Berry LP (Decca) – which did NOT contain Hoochie Coochie man – so this acetate has an unusual recording history and is very rare.
The acetate is visually quite marked with several marks and scuffs – yet it plays very well. It is housed in a plain brown sleeve. There are no matrix numbers of the recordings – so it is hard to know if these recordings differ from the published versions. Either way they are very intriguing. I have enjoyed owning this acetate very much indeed – so this is your choice to buy it now!
