Dave Brubeck Quartet – Jazz at Oberlin ( UK Test Pressing/Factory sample) -

College jazz concerts have long been a commonplace, but in 1953 they were a rarity. It was the Dave Brubeck Quartet that pioneered in the genre, and this was their first on record. Oberlin, with its famous conservatory, was an appropriate setting, and the foursome came up with a program of five great jazz standards in long and often surprisingly free performances that found Dave and Paul Desmond at the top of their game. Dave's intense solo on "These Foolish Things" is one of his most inspired early improvisations, and Paul shines on "The Way You Look Tonight." Throughout, the interplay between them is fresh and often astonishing. Caught at the brink of fame, the quartet shows why it got there.

Cover – This test pressing comes with NO sleeve.

Vinyl– The vinyl is nice and flat and still retains a nice gloss. There are faint sleeve removal marks and some hairlines consistent with age. The sound is great and vibrant with the occasional pop and some background noise in quieter passages. The labels appear are clean and bear indication of little usage. Having played this again for playgrading purposes, I still found it very enjoyable to listen to.

Just for your information this LP was playgraded from start to finish on a Clearaudio Performance Turntable with a Clearaudio Maestro cartridge through a Pure Sound Valve phono stage. You can therefore feel confident that the LP was really put through its paces.
