Vinyl: Side 1 (Brubeck) NM, nearly flawless vinyl, label & spindle, Side 2: VG, 2 hairline marks; wavy label. NOTE: Side 1 (Brubeck), is a positively superb recording, Side 2 (Walter), an absolutely terrible recording. Original sleeve included, frayed at opening, partial split to one side.
Description:
Side one on this exceedingly rare private record of The Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Music Educators National Conference (MENC), is a discussion with George Avakian to set up “I’m in A Dancing Mood” by the quartet. This is a studio grade live recording. The Bruno Walter B-side is somewhat of a curiosity, taking place at the same conference, but ultimately an uneven, bad recording followed by a very fine recording consisting of 2 excerpts from Mozart Symphony No. 36. I can find no information about this non-circulated 45, other than the song appearing first on Dave Brubeck and Jay & Kai at Newport, also released in 1956.
