ORIGINAL UK issue on black label Fontana from 1959….NOT a later issue on orange CBS label…NOT a foreign issue…NOT a new 180g repressing.
Designed as an experiment using musical styles and times Brubeck discovered abroad while on a USA State sponsored tour of Eurasia, such as when he observed in Turkey a group of street musicians performing a traditional Turkish folk song played in 9/8 time, a rare meter for Western music. The album received unfavourable reviews by critics upon its release, but despite this, it became one of the best-known and biggest-selling jazz albums. The chart hit “Take Five" is here in its full uncut version of course.
Record has no marks on Side two. Side one has a mark that causes a light click for about two minutes on the first track. The sleeve shows only the slightest of age-wear.
