THE DAVE CLARK FIVE: Five By Five 1964-69, 14 Titles. Columbia UK mono orig (black/blue label). SX 6309. 1968
Here's a great copy of this splendid album from The DC5, to my mind their best by some way. Side One is subtitled 'Go!!' and contains the more uptempo rocking numbers, while Side Two is named 'Slow!!' and features the more reflective material. There are several stand-out psych masterpieces on this album, including their highly-rated 'Maze Of Love' with it's Sgt Pepper-influenced fuzz guitar riff. Both sides contain some excellent stuff, which should be more than enough to convince the most sceptical of psych fans that there was a lot more to the DC5 than you might imagine. It comes in it's original textured flipover sleeve. This is a little age-worn, and there's a very small mark on Denny Peyton's neck (see pic top right), but basically it's fine. I'd grade the sleeve VG. The vinyl, however, is in great condition, it has just a few light marks, and I'd grade it EX.
