DAVE DORAN: Android Suspect (Moon Man 68-417-S/early 80's?)

My review in The Acid Archives (for which this copy was used) describes this best:

Late 70‘s/early 80's style AOR. Doran sings, wails on guitars and writes songs, mostly about his alleged experiences with women.

The album peaks on the opening track, “Android Lover”, an other worldly hard rock anthem about an android whose owner only turns it on when she wants sex. Doran blasts out metallic guitar leads and sings the memorable chorus “I’m her android lover and I know she’s gonna die (la da da, die yi yi yi yi yi)”.

“Bonnie”, a chunky semi-ballad, seems to be about an American having a foreign affair and mentions something about an astral plane. This could relate to the phased guitars in the closing solo that sound like they are about to quote the Star Trek theme.

The third song opens with a riff reminiscent of “Lady Jane” before turning into a breezy Steely Dan-like lament about turning the tables on a woman who spurned him. From there, as DD launches into a would-be soulful ballad, the LP disintegrates into a series of lame-o singer/songwriter rambles with half the songs punctured by inexplicably heavy and blistering guitar solos.

A rather disappointing end to a promising start, but the sort of title track still qualifies Doran for entry into the realm of real people.

The cover is Ex (ringwear on front, lighter ringwear on back; tiny split on bottom seam near opening; left corners very slightly banged).

The record looks VG+ (moderate amount of scuffing; one small mark on the first song), plays Ex (couple of low pops from the mark on the first song; some low crackle on the third song on Side 2).

SHIPPING: Shipping costs will be quoted based on cost for estimated weight plus $1.00 to cover most of the cost of packing materials.

All records are packed in in between two cardboard filler pads and shipped in professional cardboard mailing boxes. All unsealed  12" records are taken out of their covers to prevent seam splitting. If there is a custom inner sleeve, the record will be put in a separate white inner. If a 7" record comes in a picture sleeve, the same procedure is followed.

GRADING: I grade records both visually and audibly. As grading is so imprecise and subjective, I don't have a set grading description like you see listed in many auction and collector magazines. My grades for  records and covers are based on the overall conditions I describe in each auction; I will note any visual defects and (for the vinyl) any non-musical sounds (pops, clicks, skips, etc.).
