Description
You are bidding on a vinyl copy of Aladdin Sane, David Bowie's Ziggy Goes To America LP, featuring Mike Garson's piano playing and hits including "Time", "The Jean Genie" and "Drive-In Saturday".
This gatefold LP comes complete with the fan club insert that only came with the earliest copies. They are also quite rare because lots of fans wrote on them and applied to join Bowie's fan club. To find an unmarked one is therefore a good thing.
The matrix number is CPRY 4543 3T and CPRY 4544 3T if you go in for that sort of thing. Discogs tells me that's a first pressing.
Early pressings have another interesting feature: the place where each song was written (see photos) on the orange RCA label. Eg Time (New Orleans).
Later copies just had the song title. Spoilsports.
Selling because I have two copies and this needs a new home. Has been in my collection for many years kept in a plastic sleeve which I will include to keep the record clean.
Inner sleeve also included with the lyrics and a fetching Ziggy flash.
The labels are unmarked.
No writing on the cover, sleeves or insert.
Any flaws?
Well, the album cover is a little off-White - not very much - I have seen some very dirty copies of this album and this is still very clean, but it has aged a little over the years (see photo - you get a good sense of this in the first photo by comparing the colour of the fan club insert with the album cover - the insert is white, the cover slightly off-white) and there's slight rubbing marks at the bottom on the reverse of the sleeve (see last photo) from the previous owner taking the album in and out of their record collection, but this is a nice clean copy with tight corners and spine.
The insert has a couple of brown spots on it (see photo) and a very very slight crease at the bottom.
The record has one or two light paper scuffs which do not affect play. Side 2 opening groove crackles slightly (and only briefly) and during the quietest part of the introduction to "Time".
As you can see, I am seeking to paint the most clear and honest picture that I can. It's a very nice copy indeed. Not mint - it has been played, not least by me, but it sounds great. No pops, clicks or audible scratches.
This LP was valued at £70 in the Rare Record Guide 2012 with the fan club inner if in mint condition. (This is used)
