Description
Next year, in 2024, marks the FIFTIETH anniversary of the release of David Bowie's glam and progressive rock masterpiece 'Diamond Dogs'! That's right, fifty years ago, Bowie's record label rejected the cover because it showed Bowie as a half man/half canine...with doggy genitals! From a website discussing copies that were recalled but never actually got turned in:
"An original copy of the extremely rare David Bowie 'Diamond Dogs' album with the "genitals cover" is by far the rarest and most sought after Bowie collectible, as well as one of the rarest records in the world. This 1974 album was issued with the dog's genitals airbrushed out, but some early covers with the genitals were distributed by RCA Records salesmen for display purposes. This album was NEVER originally sold with this rare cover, and an extremely small number of the uncensored "genitals covers" have ever surfaced. It is said that there are less than 6 copies of this album left in the world!"
They brought back the "offending" image for the 180 gram reissue in 2016. Up for grabs today is a copy of that original image (but the REISSUE, not the recalled version) LP, in a sweet gatefold sleeve restoring the original artwork! The vinyl looks great, and is still all shiny and clean. The sleeve is nice and clean, as well. In fantastic shape, and looking awesome! A classic rock album that gave the world the hits: "Rebel, Rebel", "1984", and the title track!
I'll also add a special bonus! You'll get a copy of 'Rolling Stone' magazine's Bowie commemorative issue, and the 2021 reprint. It's loaded with TONS of articles, pictures, album reviews, and more! Also in great shape. Read through it a couple of times, then put away. No pages torn, written on, or dog-eared! A nice double shot of Bowie goodness, for fans of the 'Starman' himself, lovers of classic rock on vinyl, and collectors of (formerly) banned covers that are once again brought back to life!
David Bowie passed away in 2016, and we'll always know that he was one of the most influential and revered musical artists of the last 50 plus years! (RIP Bowie. You were a pioneer with style, talent, and a charming personality. We miss you very much!)
"I'm looking for a vehicle, I'm looking for a ride
I'm looking for a party, I'm looking for a side
I'm looking for the treason that I knew in '65"
