Description
This is a genuine 1st UK press of SCARY MONSTERS (and Super Creeps) from 1980 catalogue BOW LP2 (PL13647) It is getting hard to find one in this amazing condition!
This lovely vinyl looks bright and shiny - near mint or strong excellent The labels are textured black (RCA orange labels finished in 1979) and show little or no spindlewear - near mint again !! The run-out wax shows the mastering logo TOWNHOUSE, on both sides, and the cryptic mesage I CAN'T THINK .. (side 1) OF ANYTHING (side 2) Etched into the deadwax is BOW LP2 - A3 B7F and BOW LP2 B4 A1Q
The Edward Bell cover shows the price code ZZ in white lettering on the rear The double lyric/ music credits insert is intact. Both are in Ex condition
The record is produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti, and there are appearances by Rober Fripp and Pete Townshend. It is witty and funky with synthesisers and thrilling guitar; it starts with a woman declaiming lyrics in Japanese with Bowie's voice behind her in English. As the whole album describes its progress we hear what's happened to Major Tom, and Bowie's relationship with costume and make up. It was heralded as a post-punk masterpiece for the start of a new decade. Ashes To Ashes was the first single released from it.
It deserves a place in every vinyl lover's collection.
