DAVID BOWIE Scary Monsters (RCA PL 13647) RARE German 1st Pressing +Insert MINT
RARE German first pressing of David Bowie`s "last great" album "Scary Monsters" on RCA Records (September 1980).
"Scary Monsters presents David Bowie riveted to life's passing parade: streamlined moderns, trendies and sycophants in 360 degrees of stark, scarifying Panavision. With its nervous voyeurism, Scary Monsters is more like Aladdin Sane (probably Bowie's best record) than anything else. But because the bleakness that Bowie now witnesses is partially of his own devising, it gives the new LP a heavy, stricken pall. If there's condescension in the artist's stance (Prometheus aghast at what mortals have made of his gift?), there's also genuine concern. Bowie has the air of a superhero who's shrugged off his powers and thus volunteered himself to a reality from which he can't quick-change away. (...) David Bowie has always utilized distance for self-preservation, but now he's shuddering at the results — at what happens when estrangement becomes not only an illustrative concept but a code to live by. The wraiths who inhabit Scary Monsters are all either running scared with their eyes closed or too wasted to notice what's in front of them. GRADING:
MINT(-) COVER, practically perfect. Please see photos for details.- Near-invisible record imprint on front cover.
- Tiny corner scuff (at bottom right).
- Also includes the original insert/lyric sheet in MINT- condition.
MINT- RECORD, played once or twice at most.
- Visually near-perfect vinyl on both sides, with impeccable audio reproduction throughout.
- A few random hairlines lines, from sleeve removal only.
- Absolutely no scuffs, scratches or other wear at all.
- Original matt orange RCA Records labels in MINT- condition, with a single, lightest spindle line on each label.
- The matrix stamps in the run-off grooves read "RCA PL - 13647 - A / Manufactured in Germany" and "RCA PL - 13647 - B / Manufactured in Germany".
- This record is hereby certified to be a German first pressing of "Scary Monsters" released in September 1980.
PLEASE NOTE: Not to be compared with the more-often-than-not substandard vinyl on offer on eBay, both items are in honestly-graded MINT- condition.
