Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! Original UK pressing of David Bowie "Young Americans" album on the original 1st UK Orange RCA labels. This album was purchased from new and originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records! This album is complete with the original UK issue Un laminated Robert Stace printed Press cover in excellent condition, There is light general storage wear with age only in the form of light corner bumping creases and minor rubbing in my opinion! The audio is truly stunning through out! The audio is graded at Near as Mint in my opinion! Certainly the best sounding copy that I have heard astoundingly clear a vibrant very very rare like this! No loud nasty constant clicks or pops! So rich and vibrant throughout! Looks and sounds like it has only ever been played a handful of times!  This is complete with the original plain white paper record sleeve in superb condition. Over 44 years old like this! Young Americans is the ninth studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released on 7 March 1975 by RCA Records.

 

The album marked a departure from the glam rock style of Bowie's previous albums, showcasing his interest in soul and R&B music.

 

Bowie would call the album's sound "plastic soul", describing it as "the squashed remains of ethnic music as it survives in the age of Muzak rock, written and sung by a white limey".

 

Initial recording sessions took place in Philadelphia with producer Tony Visconti and a variety of musicians, including guitarist Carlos Alomar, who would become one of Bowie's most frequent collaborators, and singer Luther Vandross.

 

 

Bowie drew influence from the sound of "local dance halls", which were blaring with the "lush strings, sliding hi-hat whispers, and swanky R&B rhythms of Philadelphia Soul".

 

Later sessions took place in New York City, including contributions from John Lennon.

 

Although Bowie was among the first English pop musicians of the era to overtly engage with black musical styles, the album was very successful in the US; the album itself reached the Top 10 in the Billboard charts, with the song "Fame" hitting the number-one the same year the album was released. It was generally well received by critics.

 

For the album cover artwork, Bowie initially wanted to commission Norman Rockwell to create a painting, but retracted the offer when he heard that Rockwell would need at least six months to do the job.

 

The album's cover photo was eventually taken in Los Angeles on August 30, 1974, by Eric Stephen Jacobs. Bowie's apparent inspiration for the cover photograph came from a copy of After Dark magazine which featured another of Jacobs' photographs of Bowie's then choreographer Toni Basil.

The cover itself, as well as the cover type was designed in New York at RCA by Craig DeCamps.

The labels
The original Orange RCA Victor labels are in awesome condition! (These looks superb in my opinion)! Amaizingly I can just about see one or two very feint spider marks/trails only, even when angled to the light and of coarse little if (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round. This has only ever been played a handful of times only from new when I initially purchased it and one time to play grade for this listing. So rare for a Bowie album that is over 44 years old! Impossible to find like this! very very collectable! Early UK pressings very rare in this condition!

The vinyl
The vinyl is absolutely superb! On initial visual inspection this looks like new and still retains its sheen from new! (please note this vinyl has only ever been played a few times by me personally and I originally played this to record to tape! In the last 44 years this has been stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover to prevent ring ware and damage. This is how I have always stored my records, and of course I played this again to play grade at very loud volume on a top system! In fact even when I look at the playing surface angled to a strong light I find it hard notice any real surface marks or scratches. Any marks that could possible be seen when angled in strong light would be light whyspy surface sleeve removal type scuffs only.

The Audio Quality
I have played this through track for track prior to listing at very very loud volume on a top system! WOW!, the moment the needle hits the playing surface it is obvious this vinyl has barely ever been played at all! The audio quality is as you would expect when purchased new, superbe, TOP, TOP, TOP! cristal clear and extremely vibrant through out in fact this plays truly superb.This is without a dought the best copy that I have ever heard of this variation! Just listen to the bass lines very vibrant and real clarity very nice to hear like this! This played through superb unbelievable audio seperation, that I haven't heard like this before and stunning bassey feel throughout! One of the most vibrant sounding audio copies that I have heard and early pressing makes all the difference! Even in between tracks this was lovely and quiet. This vinyl has been stored separately from the cover in a poly sleeve for over 44 years! This is the way I always have stores my records! The vibrancy of the audio on this pressing in my opinion is as good as it gets for a very early UK issue variation! Even in between tracks this is very quiet! I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl by Bowie, and so hard to find tlike this! Please check my completed listings of records that I have sold of this quality and you will see that I normally get it right! I would grade the audio near as mint throughout!

Please note! That i always make this disclaimer! Allowances must be made for these mid seventies pressings. Please allow for the odd isolated static/ /tick that may be heard in quiet places or in between tracks, certainly not consistent throughout the audio. This is a genuine 44 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 45 year old system! Genuinly only ever played a handful of times ever!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 44 years! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves from laying dormant causes static crackle\ticks! A constant clean before each play is recommended ! This would reduce any static and enhance the audio quality!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original plain white paper record sleeve, clean and straight. No splits or tears, light creasing fading yellowing with age.

The Cover
The original 1st UK issue un laminated Robert Stace cover. Note These covers very difficult to keep in good condition and being flimsy and primarily black in colour, they are very prone to creasing. There are (no) edge splits or tears. Light rubbing at the edges are only really noticed if looked for in my opinion. There is light storage wear/bumping noted at the front top right corner to mention. Any indents or marks are only really noticed if looked for in my opinion. Any ring wear in minor any again you have to look for it to notice in my opinion.  The spine is generally lovely and square with very slight creasing only. A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.! The rear is exceptionally clean Any imperfections/rubbing edge creases, are not really noticed unless really looked for in my opinion. Graded Excellent in my opinion
