DEAD KENNEDYS Frankenchrist 1985 US 1st Press Virus 45 Banned Giger Poster EX/EX
Dead Kennedys' third studio album, released in 1985 on Alternative Tentacles. Frankenchrist continued the band's hardcore attack on Reagan-era America across tracks like "Soup Is Good Food," "M.T.V. — Get Off the Air," and "Stars and Stripes of Corruption." The album became a flashpoint in the mid-80s culture wars when the enclosed H.R. Giger poster triggered an obscenity prosecution against Jello Biafra under California law — one of the defining free-speech cases of the PMRC era.
This is an original US first pressing on Alternative Tentacles, catalog VIRUS 45.
The deadwax carries Biafra's hand-etched sarcastic quotes on both sides — "The Full Rich Flavor of Stark Reality" on Side 1 and "To cope is to cop out" on Side 2 — a signature present on genuine first-run copies of this title.
Mastered at Greg Lee Processing, Los Angeles.
Produced by Jello Biafra.
Cover art is the well-known parade photograph of Shriners in miniature cars, front and back. Label is the chocolate-red Alternative Tentacles bat design with "VIRUS 45."
This copy is complete with the original printed inner sleeve (lyrics one side, credits the other), the original Alternative Tentacles mailorder catalog insert, and the H.R. Giger "Penis Landscape" poster — the actual insert at the center of the controversy, later pulled from subsequent pressings.
