It's always good when there's a sense that one of your favourite music projects is genuinely developing, maturing, and progressing. Deaf Center have never been ones to rush things, but waiting more than six years for their fourth album is - by today's standards - an incredibly refreshing sign of their quiet confidence. And if anyone was worried there might be a little anticlimax, you're right. But that's only because Through Time was never meant to be climactic. Otto A Totland's piano is as present as it is absent, drawing on the power of quiet to make every single key count. Erik K Skodvin's atmospheric electronics are about gradual mood-setting, until you suddenly realise just how powerful the arrangements are. Inviting British composer and musician Simon Goff to get involved as the duo's first ever guest artist is also a shrewd move, his violin and viola adding another hypnotic and heart-wrenching layer.
