Following a decade spent offering up occasional - but frequently special - EPs for the likes of Visions, Mother Tongue and his own Maybe Hill imprint, Detroit-based Julion De'Angelo is finally ready to deliver his debut album, a set he says he worked on for almost ten years. You can tell, too, with the artist using the opportunity the album format provides to showcase the different strands of his expanding musical universe. For proof, compare and contrast the Detroit techno-influenced intergalactic jazz-funk of 'The Tundra', the deep, woozy percussion jazz of 'Confused One', the Vick lavender-esque cosmic deep house warmth of 'Antheme', the slow, seductive and dreamy organic beatdown of 'Karma', and the skittish, sub-heavy drum machine abuse of raw, off-kilter closing cut 'RealWon'.
