Returning to wax as part of this year's Rhino Records' Rocktober repress offerings, You're A Woman, I'm A Machine was originally released in 2004 as the debut full-length from Canadian noise-rock meets dance-punk duo Death From Above 1979. The brainchild of vocalist/drummer Sebastien Grainger and bassist/keyboardist Jesse F. Keeler (of MSTRKRFT), the pair's mission statement has always been to "to be the AC/DC of hardcore" with their straightforward compositions offset by overdriven bass tones, bizarre synth-lines and snotty, earnest screams, all delivered with sasscore swagger. Whilst originally disbanding in 2006, opting to burn out rather fade away, the two would reunite for reunion shows before delivering their sophomore follow up The Physical World a decade later in 2014, whilst they've continued to pump out albums since. There's no denying, however, the magic potency of this debut, both during its "one & done" limbo period and in its current place in the annals of early 21st century outsider rock.
