Description
Pretty nice box set here, it has an insert with commentary on both Schubert and Haydn's symphonies. These records look pretty clean, though one has a few isolated scuffs and a couple light scratches on one side (4 sides in all), although it doesn't seem to pick up on the playback. Playing this record on my turntable, it has very good fidelity though there is a constant level of light to moderate surface noise throughout.
Note: The record has been in storage for at least 35 years and before I had played it, and had accumulated a lot of moldy dust from the cardboard sleeve it was packed in. If anyone out there has a decent record cleaner, it would probably eliminate a lot of the spurious noise on these records. I've been cleaning the records with just some fluid and a discwasher and it has GREATLY improved the noise level and fidelity on this set.
The set serial # is DX- 119 and the records are # DL 9646 (MG 2777-81). The record and insert have a note stating "Recorded by Deutsche Grammophon". The Decca Gold series are pressed on a heavier and more inflexible platter than modern releases.
