Description

DECCA SXL 2012 - Grieg - Peer Gynt - Fjeldstad, LSO

Condition vinyl:
VG+
There's a pale scuff mark on side one that was completely inaudible on my system. Visually, there are some more extremely faint marks, that can only be seen under bright light and have no aural relevance. Playgrading shows some light background noise, mostly near the start of the sides. There is some crackle at the soft start of the last track on side one. There are no repeating ticks or loud clicks and pops. The sound is spectacular, clean and free from any groove wear!
Condition cover:
G+/VG-
The blue back border sleeve is only in acceptable condition. There is some ringwear, some laminate lift on the front and light creasing. The back is a bit grubby, the former owner has pasted a medaillon sized picture of the composer onto it (which is quite neat in its own way) and there is a small date written just below the catalogue number. The sleeve is complete though and there are no seam splits.
Pressing:
UK pressing - grooved wide band label, "ORIGINAL RECORDING BY" at 10 o'clock (ED1) -
2E-3-BG/2E-5-UG
What else:
Without any doubt this is one of the greatest and most sought after records in the entire Decca catalogue. Fjeldstad's rendition of "In the Hall of the Mountain King" has to be heard to be believed, it's one of the most exciting experiences on all vinyl! The LP on offer is the first pressing with blue back border sleeve and the earlier cover design. Printing date on back of the sleeve is October 1958. The recording was made in February 1958 in Kingsway Hall by Cyril Windebank.
NM (near mint) is my highest grade for a non-sealed record - mint is reserved for sealed copies.
