A MISUMMER NIGHT?S DREAM - PETER MAAG CONDUCTING LONDON SYMPHONY SOLOISTS & CHORUS. DECCA SXL 2060 ED1 STEREO 1959 WIDE BAND DEEP GROOVE VINYL LP
Sleeve Condition: Worn, with a little bit of foxing to the back, which can be easily seen in the photo. Otherwise, free from any kind of actual damage or defect, about Vg.
Record Condition: The vinyl looks lovely, bright and scratch free and visually would looks like a Near Mint record. However, there is quite a bit of background ?ssh? and some crackle and pop. I can?t make out why this is although I guess it could do with a deep clean on a professional machine but it is sold as is and as such is a compromised copy of a highly sought after LP. Bidders should therefore view this as a collection filler only of a very rare SXL.
Having said all of that, there is absolutely no deterioration in the sound quality of the music itself, not a hint or trace of distortion or tracking difficulty and the music shines through gloriously.
This is the very first ED1 release with ?Original Recording By? to the top left quarter of the label.

World-class musicians like the soloists Jennifer Vyvyan, Marion Lowe and the London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Peter Maag, and supported by the Women?s Chorus of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, give a masterly performance of this delightful work which offers an insight into Mendelssohn?s early and late compositional styles. The quality of the performance leaves nothing to be desired and the listener is carried away to a world of dreams, not only during a summer night.
