DECCA SXL 2135 - Mozart - Symphonies 32 & 38 - Maag, LSO
Condition vinyl:
VG+/VG (visually), NM/VG+ (playgraded)
As this is a very rare and sought after record, I have listened to the entire LP and will detail my findings below:
Visually, the vinyl has a couple of completely superficial marks that do not sound. There are three stains on side two that looked suspicious but didn't produce any noise as well.
Playgrading: side one plays very well and without any real problems. There were four isolated ticks in total, spread over the side, not a big deal. There is also some very light background noise in the softer passages, mostly near the start of the side, which I didn't find disturbing at all and might improve with further cleaning and playing. Side two plays about in the same league, with about five or six isolated ticks and light background noise near the start and in a short period in the middle. There are no repeating ticks from actual scratches. There is absolutely no groove wear and the sound on the entire LP is clear, undistorted and of the highest quality!
So, to sum it up, this is a copy that certainly looks less than perfect, but plays very well indeed!

The scalloped flipback sleeve is in quite bad condition. Although there are no splits, it has many other faults. There is heavy creasing, some ringwear, the backside is marred by some smudges and a bit of dirt, the corners are somewhat rounded and it's rather tatty. Not a beauty, but at least it will keep the record from rolling off the shelf.

This is by far the rarest of the Maag recordings in the Decca SXL series! What counts even more is the wonderful performance and the superb sound quality Maag has been given by the engineer - I suppose it should be Kenneth Wilkinson. Recorded 24th to 28th January 1959 in Kingsway Hall, London. First issue with scalloped flipback sleeve, printing date on back of the cover is May 1959.
NM (near mint) is my highest grade for a non-sealed record - mint is reserved for sealed copies.
