Description

This is one of a number of vinyl records from the 1950’s & 60’s listed this week which we no longer listen to. Little played, the records are still in very good condition, the covers sometimes less so. This week’s Listing includes all 4 SXL recordings by Wilhelm Backhaus of Beethoven’s Five Piano Concertos Gradings are based on the “Record Collector Magazine's Guide” set out in the eBay Guides together with notes about condition added. Extracts from the Gramophone Magazine review written at the time of the record’s release are included where these are available. RECORD GRADING EXCELLENT There are no scratches, dents or hairlines on either side of this record, and only a couple of light spindle marks on the side 2 label. The record is not warped. The only visible marks are about 3 ‘rubbing’ marks which have no effect when listening. Both sides of this record play very nicely indeed without any repetitive clicks from unseen marks. The record would certainly benefit from a clean as the only unwanted sounds to be heard are the very light ticks consistent with dust particles. It really is an excellent, probably now 50 year old, record. COVER GRADING VERY GOOD veering towards EXCELLENT For its age, the cover is almost excellent. There are no splits, the laminate is intact and not lifting and the corners are not bent at all. Apart from a 1/4 inch tear in the top binding band at the rear and a line of similar length at the bottom left corner of the laminate on the front face, this cover is without damage. I have given it Very Good only because there is some discolouration of the white areas, both front and back, and a ‘record ring’ is visible on the front. The Inner Sleeve, the original blue FFSS, is in Excellent condition. No splits or damage and only a little discoloured. I have no wish for you to be disappointed by your purchase. If you think the grading/description was unfair or unreasonable when you receive the record, you may return it and you will have a full refund of all that you have paid me. All I require is that you contact me within 7 days of its receipt to tell me you intend to return it, and that I receive the record in the same condition as it was when it was sent to you. MINT Record In brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality Cover In perfect condition, as are extra items such as thelyric sheet, booklet or poster EXCELLENT Record Shows signs of having been played, but with very little lessening in sound quality Cover Slight wear and / or creasing to the cover or its contents VERY GOOD Record Obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch Cover Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects GOOD Record Played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, and there may be some distortion and mild scratches Cover Suffers from folding, scuffed edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
