Deena Webster : Tuesday's Child 1/1 1st Stereo Press 1968 'Not For Sale' G1 / G1 Stampers
This rare and very collectable first stereo pressing is an absolute stunner! As always I played every track in full and the clarity, warmth and depth of the audio is phenomenal. In all honesty the clarity of sound is close to perfect and indeed on many of the tracks it is! It has only been lightly played - there is only minimal spindle wear - and I only noticed three minor ticks and a handful of very quiet background statics. In my opinion this is a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic and is easily one of the finest 60s albums I have ever played. More impressive in a way because a lot of it plays so quietly. There are no clicks or pops anywhere, it truly is one STUNNING vinyl!
The vinyl itself is in lovely condition with only a small number of insignificant faint hairlines and as can be seen it has the FACTORY SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE sticker on the S2 label. Discogs only has a G1 / A1 stamper / mother for this first stereo pressing but this one has G1 on both sides - the holy grail for any record! The stereo version is actually rarer than the mono version because in '68 they were not pressed on the same numbers.
The laminated E.J. Day cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear as described below and it has retained its original shape and structure so well. The original inner sleeve is also in excellent shape. It is a STUNNING album and all the more remarkable in that she was only 18 years old when she recorded it.

Visual description
The vinyl is in fantastic condition with a superb glossy sheen and no marks or scratches. All I can see under a strong bright light are a small number of very faint hairlines and there is certainly nothing that stands out. A very small section of hazing near the S1 run off but it is so faint and you can only see it when you hold the vinyl at a certain angle, it's hardly worth a mention really. As stated the FACTORY SAMPLE - NOT FOR SALE sticker is still affixed perfectly to the S2 label and both Parlophone labels are in lovely condition with only minimal spindle wear. You can also clearly see the KT tax stamp on the S2 label. This is one stunning vinyl!
Play Grading
The intro on 'Hurry, Tuesday Child' plays beautifully with a clarity that is second to none and Webster's opening vocal is equal to that. It continues in the same precise way and I cannot emphasise enough just how clean and warm the audio is. The up tempo section is just as strong and the remainder has no background either. This is the perfect start to this classic album as this opening number just could not play any better. There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and it's hard to believe a vinyl that is 57 years old could play with such precision. I grade with honesty and integrity as my feedback confirms and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint such is the quality.
With complete silence in the dead wax the acoustic intro on 'Hair Of Spun Gold' is 'as new' and the opening vocal has only a couple of barely audible statics, no need to mention them really! The next vocal has just one very light tick but again it is not intrusive in any way. From then on it plays with sublime clarity with only a couple of very quiet statics / ticks near the end. I will say Near Mint but clearly 99% is Mint with no intrusion.
The classic 'New York Mining Disaster, 1941' is STUNNING in every way. A unique version and to say it plays clearly is an understatement! The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is phenomenal and it really does play to the highest standard possible. An incredible version that easily deserves a Mint grading.
Another well known classic in 'Geordie' and again it plays with impeccable quality from start to finish. As stated this record has been played before (albeit with minimal spindle wear) but the sonic 'landscape' kind of suggests otherwise! There is literally no background and it plays beautifully throughout with such a distinctive vocal from Webster. Mint
There are a couple of light ticks in the dead wax between tracks but then the intro on 'Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues' plays perfectly. The opening vocal section is faultless and it progresses in the same way. A rare instrumental break with 'as new' clarity and the final vocal has no interference either, not even a dust tick including the fade out. Another stunning Mint version.
'The House Of The Rising Sun', a rather well known number (!) plays with superb audio from the word go. The acoustic intro has no intrusion and Webster's opening vocal is just as strong and clear. Showing more of her range and with more of a musical accompaniment the playback is again STUNNING. There is no inner groove distortion and the clarity and separation of the audio is so impressive. So often final tracks from records of this era will have some background but not here! Each note is so sharp and precise and (obviously) there is no interference. This is one stunning side of music and it closes with a perfect Mint rendition of this all time classic.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Webster's opening vocal on 'Who Will Buy' is again so distinctive, the production on this debut album is superb. A couple of barely audible statics at most and it plays with stunning precision. The first verse is flawless and the next chorus is on the same level with zero intrusion. From then onwards it plays so well with only 3/4 more so so quiet statics but you only notice them if you sit right next next to the speakers! As my regulars know I will write down any background even if you hardly hear it! The remainder of this Bart classic plays with wonderful clarity and warmth - the orchestral arrangement lends itself perfectly to this track. There is just one static tick on the end instrumental so I will grade as Near Mint overall.
'The Flower Lady' provides more evidence, if it was needed, of a record has been so well preserved down the decades. From first note to the last there is no background - a more straightforward folk number that grades also grades as Mint
The acoustic intro on 'Summer Day Reflection Song' is perfect and the opening vocal is just as clean with only one minor static. A brief track with no interference and Mint- is very much deserved.
Soon followed by another Donovan number 'Colours' then plays with unrivalled quality with no sign of any interference. A handful of mega quiet statics that is all that are of course totally non-intrusive - the clarity of the audio is sensational. Mint-
'Tangles Of My Mind' definitely shows a greater range in Webster's vocal. There is just one light tick after the opening vocal but aside from that it plays with genuine quality. A powerful vocal and Near Mint is deserved at the very least. Perhaps Mint- would be a more fair assessment.
'The Last Thing On My Mind' closes the album in fine style with stunning clarity throughout. It could hardly play any better - there is just one very quiet tick after the first vocal but that is the only background. It is so close to perfect and Mint- is deserved here. Again there is no inner groove distortion and the playback is so clear and warm. What an album!
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The cover is in excellent condition with only a little shelf wear mainly on the back. Fast approaching 60 years of age it is very clean overall and the laminated front cover especially is in superb shape. The edges and thin pinched spine are stunning and only the bottom right corner has a little rubbing, the others are incredibly clean! The opening edge has only very minimal handling wear which is what you would expect for a vinyl so lightly played. So yes the front cover is in lovely condition with only that small 'rub' lower right and a handful of minor laminate creases around the edges. A tiny bit of 'rub' also next to the opening edge. The back cover is not laminated and has only a little creasing on the bottom left flipback and even less top left. The actual flipback edges are so clean with barely any of the marking / staining that you regularly see. The actual surface is in great shape with only a couple of small faint marks. In my opinion you won't find many better than this, it has been very carefully looked after with no obvious wear as such.
The original die-cut poly-lined inner is in excellent order with no side splits or tears and barely any marking - just some of the glue showing through around the edges which is a common thing. Minimal creasing also.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
