This is a true GEM of a record.... as you can see in the actual photos of the disc and cover. It is a mint copy, shelved for over 40 years.  DEEP GROOVE Blue Note 4004... HOLIDAY FOR SKINS by Art Blakey.  Featuring Art on drums and chants, Philly Joe Jones on drums, tympani and chants, Art Taylor on drums and gong, SABU MARTINEZ on bongo, conga and chants, Andy Delannoy on maracas and cencerro, Ray Baretto and Chonguito Vincente on congas, Victor Gonzalez on bongo, Julio Martinez on conga and tree log, Fred Pagani, Jr on timbales, Donald Byrd on trumpet, Ray Bryant at piano, Wendell Marshall on bass, and AUSTIN CROMER and HAL RASHEED on chants!!!

  The tracks include THE FEAST, AGHANO, LAMENTO AFRICANO and MIRAGE.

   This album is essential for Jazz, Latin collectors, African, or Afro Latin collectors.   A 1958 BLUE NOTE, still in an amazing SHRINK WRAP which is RARE to find for pressings this early.   Most albums in the 50's were either NOT sealed, or sealed by the individual stores where they were to be sold, usually in a loose baggie type wrap.  Few stores had the capability to "shrink" their inventory.    And labels (BLUE NOTE being one) did ship some in shrink wrap for special customers who required it.  Usually, though, this "wrapping" got torn off, and covers began to wear. This one has thick brown cardboard inside as is found on the earliest pressings.

  By the early to mid 60's, virtually ALL  new release albums were "shrink wrapped" by popular demand, and some smaller labels even shipped out "old stock" that had been warehoused for years as NEW pressings, using the old stock vinyl, old  stock covers, whatever they had unused in their warehouses, to fill orders. 

  This cover is MINT... the spines are perfect, the type on the spine is centered perfectly and clear. The shrink wrap is untorn and unfaded... amazingly.

  The  vinyl itself is nearly flawless, glistening shiny black with NO scratches, NO wear, no signs of ever even being played!!!  MINT!!!  This is the thick, heavy original pressing from 1958.   The ADDRESS on the label is 47 West 63rd NYC. The ultimate plus to this is the DEEP GROOVE in the label indicating this as a true first pressing.

  Rather than a faded white inner sleeve, I'm including the "1939-1966 The first Name In Jazz " inner sleeve for this item, because of it's wonderful inclusion of 72 (SEVENTY TWO!!!!) different Blue Note album covers.  The albums pictured are from the 1200, 1500, 4000 and 4100 series.

   I DO NOT FIND Blue Notes in this exquisite condition. Usually, they're clean but not mint, or worn and heavily played. I found this one in my warehouse while looking for something else, and had forgotten I even had it.   I'm starting the bidding low deliberately, to encourage early bids. I've experienced Ebay shutting down late at night for "upkeep", causing some bids not to go through... so if you're interested, PLEASE bid early.  I cannot accept bids after the auction closes just because a bid "didn't get through".
