Deep Purple : Burn A2/B1 Early Press
This record plays to a standard that you so rarely find today. The definition of the audio and the clarity is just incredible and it was a real pleasure to listen to. Visually it is in wonderful condition also.
This I would say is a third press as it has 'EMI Records Ltd...' on both labels and an A2/B1 matrix. The cover is very clean overall with only minor shelf wear.

Visual grading
You would be forgiven for thinking this was a new vinyl it looks that good! It has one of the most shiny glossy sheens that I have ever seen and it has been beautifully preserved down the decades. There are only two obvious spindle traces on S1 and just one mega small one on S2 so I confident in saying it has hardly been played. The superb playback confirms that! I can only see a couple of very faint marks on S1 and there are no obvious hairlines at all and it goes without saying there are no scratches. Fantastic clean run out grooves and labels also.
Play grading
The classic 'Burn' plays with a power and clarity that you rarely find today. With only a minimal hint of mega light static in a couple of places this is Near Mint without doubt. The soaring vocals are so 'clean' and the instrumentation could not sound any better. A stunning start.
'Might Just Take Your Life' has a couple of minor static ticks on the intro and then plays with wonderfully deep, rich and powerful audio. This is also Near Mint although the vast majority is far better than that!
I am delighted to say 'Lay Down, Stay Down' has audio of the same exact standard. In actual fact there is no interference of any kind so I am confident in grading it as Mint- it is that good.
There are then a small number of very soft clicks in the dead wax and then three on the 'Sail Away' quiet intro. They are not loud! From then on it plays with phenomenal depth and clarity. A stunning version with barely any inner groove distortion and rarely for any final track there is no 'background' on the fade out.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow 'You Fool No One' is just stunning! You can see how far the new vocals of Coverdale and Hughes have taken the Purple sound, they certainly add an extra dimension. From start to finish there is no interference and the clarity and depth is off the scale! Another Mint- track.
'What's Goin' On Here' is equal to that and plays to the same 'high end' standard and without wishing to sound repetitive there is quite simply no interference at all. Mint- again.
'Mistreated' plays with great precision from the get go. There are a small number of very faint ticks but remember I sit very close to the speakers. When I stand back 3/4 paces I cannot hear them! Thereafter the clarity and definition of each note is sublime, it could not play any better. The clarity and power of Blackmore's work at the end is sensational. What a mind-blowing version! I am very happy to grade this as Mint- I have never heard better.
The intro on 'A' 200' is 'as new' the quality is sensational and this instrumental continues to play in the same manner with not iota of interference.
In summary this stunning album plays with a clarity and depth that is so impressive. If not for the few seconds on the track 4 intro on S1 this would be a final upgrade pressing. Just one look at the vinyl and you can see that it has hardly ever been played - it is visually stunning with audio to match.
The Cover
The G & L cover has only a little wear and remains in excellent condition. The top edge has only minimal rubbing and the bottom edge even less although there is one small area of wear in the middle but it is not a split! The thin spine is still perfectly legible and has only a small number of 'rubs'. The bottom two corners do have a little wear but the top two are certainly cleaner and the opening edge has hardly any handling wear. The front cover is very clean with only minor ringwear which is common anyway and a small number of faint crease next to the spine. The back cover is the same plus a very small mark near the top edge above the catalogue number. Only superficial wear really and an excellent example.
Inner Sleeve
The die-cut EMI inner has no splits or tears, hardly any creasing and minimal age related fading. In superb condition!
The Labels
They are in fantastic shape with no loss of colour and no marking or writing and barely any spindle wear. Stunning!
