Deep Purple : Come Taste The Band A-1U / B-1U 1st Press

This first pressing plays with stunning quality and there is no interference at all.  The clarity, depth and power is equal to an un-played vinyl and as always I have played the album in full so as to provide a 'complete' grading.  It just could not play any better that's how good it is!  It has been so well preserved and is easily a FINAL UPGRADE archive classic.

The cover is quite simply the best I have ever seen.  It is visually stunning with no obvious wear and is practically 'as new'.  The lyric inner is also in superb condition which is quite impressive when you think it is made of paper and nearly 50 years old!

Visual description

The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no scratches.  Under a bright light I can see one very faint blemish near the end of S1 and a some very faint sleeve removal hairlines but they have no effect on the audio.  The Purple labels are unmarked and have only minimal spindle wear.

Play grading  

'Comin' Home' rocks out loud and true with no interference.  The sonic quality is equal to how it would've sounded back in '75 and Mint is 100% deserved.

'Lady Luck' plays to the same high end standard with no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  Mint all the way.

The intro on 'Gettin' Tighter' has no background and the opening vocal section is just as strong and powerful.  Featuring great work from Bolin this high octane classic plays with outstanding audio throughout with no intrusion of any kind.  Once again I am 100% confident in grading this as Mint such is the quality.

'Dealer' and 'I Need Love' complete the side with perfect audio.  Little more needs to be said!  The clarity and depth on offer here is 'as new' and there is no distortion either.  Both grade as Mint

'Drifter' plays with great power and depth throughout with no interference.  I did notice a handful of mega quiet statics but they are obviously not intrusive.  Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio.

The intro on 'Love Child' is so strong and deep ands thereafter plays with genuine quality i.e. no interference.  Mint

The piano intro on 'This Time Around' has only a couple of very quiet statics and Hughes opening vocal section then plays with stunning clarity.  It continues in the same way - the first chorus is flawless and the clarity of sound throughout this relatively quiet number is so impressive.  A couple of minor ticks towards the end but Mint- is deserved.  The 'Owed To 'G' instrumental plays with 'as new' audio from start to finish - great power and definition and... Mint

There are two obvious ticks in the dead wax and then the very quiet intro on 'You Keep On Moving' is superb!  There is no intrusion whatsoever, a couple of barely audible dust ticks at most, and then the opening vocal section is of the same standard.  As the volume picks up the original sonic quality is still there and I just cannot praise this version highly enough.  It provides such a strong finish to the album and the clarity and power of the audio is STUNNING!  The quiet vocal towards the end is perfect and the closing instrumental more than matches it.  What a version!  Mint

In summary this first pressing plays with a clarity, depth, power and resonance that could not be any better.  The sonic quality is out of this world and there is literally no intrusion on the audio.  It is an another FINAL UPGRADE album and in conjunction with a superb cover and lyric inner this will add to any high end collection.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

The fully laminated cover is in fantastic condition!  You would not be disappointed if you just had just purchased it 'new' from a record shop!  There is just one tiny rub on the bottom edge of the front cover and one tiny rub on the bottom right corner but even that is being picky!  It has been so well preserved and is so clean inside and out.  A couple of very faint creases next to the spine also.  I'm tempted to grade as Mint- but I will say Near Mint but it really is a superb example.

The lyric inner is also in fine condition with only very minimal creasing around the thumb notch area.  There is no marking, only the glue showing through that holds the left and right edge together.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
