Deep Purple : In Rock 2nd Press P-8020W (Japan) w/ OBI (Warner Bros)
This second pressing from 1971 plays with stunning quality and by that I mean no interference. The clarity, definition and power of the audio is so impressive - as stated below the sonic quality is so strong and has very little of the 'muddy' sound quality that you so often find on the UK pressings. The clarity is such that there is not even a dust tick let alone anything more and the previous owner looked after his records incredibly well. I am selling five Japanese pressings during this auction. The vinyl is visually stunning also and has clearly only been lightly played. Another FINAL UPGRADE archive pressing in my opinion.
The cover is in superb shape with only a handful of 'spots' near the inner spine and the Obi is in perfect condition. No insert was ever included with this release.

Visual description
The vinyl is in superb condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only locate a handful of ultra faint hairlines, so faint you could easily miss them! The Warner Bros labels are unmarked and have hardly any spindle wear on S1 and only a minimal amount on S2.
Play grading
'Speed King' plays loud and true from the very first note. Gillan's voice is as powerful as ever - so often the UK pressings play with a 'muddied' sound and whilst you may need to turn the treble up here the sonic quality is very impressive. The clarity also deserves a mention and Lord's quieter organ section is a case in point with not even a dust tick. Remember this is a very early second press from '73. Every section plays with genuine quality and there is no distortion on the top end. This has to be graded as Mint as there is no background whatsoever.
'Bloodsucker' plays to the same standard although I found myself adjusting the levels again. No a problem. From start to finish there is no interference - the previous owner of these Japanese pressings certainly knew how to care for his records! This also deserves to be graded as Mint
The first thing that needs to be said about the classic 'Child In Time' is that it plays with incredible clarity! The intro is 'as new' and Gillan's opening vocal is just as clean. As it builds the playback is so strong and the first staccato section is equal to that. The long instrumental led by Blackmore plays with phenomenal quality and again there is zero intrusion on the audio. Not a bad guitarist is he!! The next quieter instrumental / vocal is faultless and the end section plays with sublime quality - turn it up to max there is no distortion! The crescendo is just mind-blowing! This is Mint all the way.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The intro on 'Flight Of The Rat' has no intrusion and the opening vocal is equal to that. It's this side that is generally more 'muddied' on the UK first / early pressings but there is no sign of it here. Every vocal and instrumental section plays so clearly and of course there is no interference! I'm not exaggerating when I say this might be the 'cleanest' version I have ever heard and Mint is richly deserved. A special mention for the long mid instrumental - absolutely STUNNING!
'Into The Fire' plays to the same standard with no sign of any intrusion. No intrusion = not even a dust tick! Mint
The percussive intro from Paice on 'Living Wreck' is flawless as is the remainder of it. The opening vocal is perfect and it continues to play with sublime quality. Perhaps the sonic quality isn't quite on the same level but it still plays very clearly with zero interference. I will say Mint- although I'm not sure why I am downgrading it!
The final track 'Hard Lovin' Man' plays with great power and clarity throughout. Again not quite as 'clean' as some other tracks but I am being ultra critical there. I am quite possibly doing myself a disservice by even mentioning it but I like to be 'complete' with my gradings as my feedback testifies. It still plays with literally no background so once more I will grade as Mint- and it provides a very strong finish to the album.
In summary this album plays with real quality and as you can see there is no interference, not even a solitary dust tick which is remarkable for a vinyl of this age. The clarity and power of the audio has no diminished and the overall sonic quality is very impressive indeed. I will say this is a FINAL UPGRADE because whilst a couple of tracks may be slightly 'muddied' that is not a fault of the actual vinyl. A superb listen.
The Gatefold & Obi
The cover is in superb condition with barely any wear. They were made with thick card in Japan so if looked after well they easily retain their original shape. The top edges have only a couple of minor white 'rubs' and the bottom edges are perfect. The wide spine is close to that with just one small 'rub' in the centre and the opening edge has only a handful of tiny indents, hardly worth a mention really. The corners are so also with only the lower left one on the back having a minor crease. The front and back cover are immaculate and the inside of the gatefold is very clean with only a handful of faint spots around the inner spine, just one is a little more obvious. The Obi strip is in fantastic condition with no wear at all.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask. Many thanks.
All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
