Rare Rare Rare 1962 Red label DGG stereo Brahms Concerto for Violin & Cello in A Opus 102 Starker, Schneiderhan
soloist Pierre Fournier
Do you prefer your rare classical records Rare or Well Done??? Often they are one, but not the other, here you have a win/win coz its definitely both Rare, and Well Done!!!
German Pressing from Deutsche Grammophon (DGG), 138 753 SLPM, Alle hersteller first pressing, only one I've ever seen in Australia in the thousands of records I have inspected. I am having difficulty finding a relative price point for this rare gem, not too many red labels get sold on ebay or elsewhere of this one. This May have been issued for a short time only, as it seems it may have been discontinued? in favor of a later issue 139 126, which also included another track. That may be why this is so valuable in the collectors market.
Without having to read my more elaborate report,
Near Mint MINUS LP / EXC ++ jacket
MORE DETAIL
Visually, STUNNINGLY clean, not even many paper hairlines in sunlight!!
FULLY test played, very quiet no sign of wear damage in replay,) As a Cello player myself, this was a very enjoyable, actually stunning performance to listen to, the recording dynamics on this LP also seem very broad contrast between quiet and loud sections. Stunning 1962 recording!! this will be relatively cheaper post, if bulked up with some other LP's you might win this evening (Closing time tuesday West Australia ) If won individually I will do my best to get package under 500 gm, which will reduce the price quoted for post considerably, but until the package is sealed I have deferred to quote the 750gm weight and refund excess postage to the winner
Near Mint minus jacket printed 6/62 and LP test played after wet wash bath, Will be treated with LAST. 'Last' record Preservative. (archive quality Vinyl preserver, said to minimise play related wear for upto 200 'plays')
This really does have no scuffs visible, unless you venture into strong sunlight, and then you have to look REALLY hard to find the finest paper scuff, and no damage or yellowing to cover except small lines or warps visible near spline and bottom edges, if held at an angle to catch reflective light. . (whole cover is unlaminated, shiny card only, its pressed that early).
This is Brahms Concerto for Violin and Cello recorded June 1961, with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Performers Janos Starker, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, conductor Ferenc Fricsay with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin.
Record looked like it had never been taken out when I first inspected it, there is absolutely no visible damage, and plays beautifully and cleanly.
LP Condition (see photo's) Near Mint MINUS after FULL test play, I am listening to it to test play as I write this listing. Only a few very light NON sounding paperscuffs in sunlight only, and beautiful, like new gloss on the vinyl.
NO rotational spindle marks on either sides label.
Record will be mailed outside sleeve to minimise seam splits, but my packing negates that problem anyway. Original DGG sleeve is EXC ++,
WAX CODES
SIDE A 138 753 5 A
SIDE B 138 753 3 B
LP COVER
(see photo's) rated 'Excellent ++'.
Cover shows minimal, minimal MINIMAL ring wear, light bottom edge wear, and minimal warping near the spline, all is visible in photo's, take my word for it, for over 47 yrs old it is remarkably well preserved.
Original inner sleeve with writing on one side is in EXC+ condition no stains or rips, no yellowing. will also include new antiscratrch archive quality sleeve from MFSL to help new owner maintain superb condition.
Won't spend too much time (?) waffling so any specific questions please email me.

If on final pack I can make it go under 500gm (too close to tell at this point until sealed with tape etc) I will refund any excess to the winner. TO BE PROPERLY INSURED, I WILL NOT UNDER DECLARE THE SALE PRICE OF THE ITEM,
I CAN ONLY INSURE BASED ON THE CUSTOMS DECLARATION STATED VALUE, PLEASE BE AWARE SHOULD YOU BE LIABLE FOR ANY CUSTOMS ON A SECOND HAND LP IN YOUR COUNTRY, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT PAYMENT (UK, Sth Korea, Germany and possibly Malaysia at least, probably more, has this problem I believe, )
In other words, buyers asking me to understate the customs declaration on this item need not bid, as I flatly refuse under international law to do so. (Last Buyer who did that gave neg feedback (it was retracted obviously) as they thought it was my fault they had taxes to pay(?????)
RULES FOR BIDDING
DOES ANYBODY READ THIS?? I THINK NOT BASED ON RECENT BIDDING ACTIVITY ON MY ITEMS!! PLEASE READ...
If you have hidden feedback, or
less than 98% positive, or
less than 50 recent visible positives, (that's NEW EBAY registrations with little activity yet, that have proven your good buying habits) THEN -
I would appreciate email contact first to establish your credentials. Credentials mean that I need to know you will be paying with VERIFIED PAYPAL account, and I of course will only be mailing to that verified address. DON'T EXPECT TO GET MY PERMISSION IN THE LAST 2 HOURS OF BIDDING, DO IT BEFOREHAND. (Buyers who have had trouble free transactions with me already qualify of course, regardless of the feedback status)
Winning bids unpaid after 7 days will be reported as non paying bidder and item opened to second chance offer.
HAPPY BIDDING, QUESTIONS WELCOME
This listing in Australian dollars because I don't live in US or UK, and if you don't, WHAT A WASTE OF DOUBLE CONVERSIONS THAT WOULD BE!!! Also as the exchange rate is more like R.S. not U.S against our vibrant economy in sunny Australia
The keen starting price offers a great opportunity to own this great recording at a reasonable starting price.
