The Dharma Quintet's 1970 debut album, Mrs Robinson, is widely considered to be something of a slept-on experimental jazz classic. It's certainly a sought-after set, with original copies regularly changing hands for large sums online. Here the album is reissued for the very first time. It remains a fine work, with the band's penchant for communal living and daily improvisation resulting in a set of three lengthy tracks that combine free-jazz movements with the rhythmic feel of bop, the heady thrills of Miles Davis' infamous "electric period" and musical flourishes that touch on jazz-funk and fusion. Despite the album's free-jazz credentials, it's not only impressively coherent, but also makes for hugely enjoyable listening.
