Very rare experimental avant-garde album from fluxus member Dieter Roth together with austrian painter Arnulf Rainer. Limited edition of 300 copies released in the 70's.

Rare original issue, released in Germany-Austria-Switzerland sometime in the 70's on the great Edition Lebeer-Hossmann (Henning Christiansen, Philip Corner, Nam June Paik) in collaboration with Dieter Roth's Verlag label (Hermann Nitsch, Friedhelm Dohl, etc.). One of the 2 collaborative records from Roth and Rainer (the other being a 7" record (Ratio-Konditio). Subtitled: Autonom-Dialogische Thematik.

Dieter Roth was a Swiss-German artist best known for his artist's books and for his sculptures and pictures made with rotting food stuffs. He was also known as Dieter Rot and Diter Rot. Whilst Roth was close friends with many members of early Fluxus (Richard Hamilton, Tom Phillips, Otto Muehl and Dorothy Iannone), the avant-garde art movement centred around George Maciunas in New York (John Cage), he deliberately kept his distance from Maciunas; when asked to add his memories of Maciunas to a biography being compiled by Emmett Williams, he contributed a less-than-complimentary summary. In 1960 he won the William and Norma Copley Award , which included Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst and Herbert Read on the jury. As well as a substantial monetary prize, the award included the chance to print a monograph; Roth declined, asking instead for funding to pay for a new work. The end result was his most ambitious book to date, the Copley Book, 1965, a semi-autobiographical deconstruction of the process of book making. In the same year he exhibited at Arthur Köpcke’s gallery in Copenhagen and at the Festival d’Art d’Avant-garde, Paris in 1960, and began an itinerant lifestyle, exhibiting and working throughout Europe, Iceland and America, a pattern he would continue for the rest of his life. A key breakthrough in his attitude to art was witnessing the performance of Tinguely's Homage to Modern Art in Basel, 1961. The work profoundly impressed Roth, leading to a decisive break with constructivism into post-modern avant-garde practices associated with the Nouveaux Réalistes such as Tinguely and Arman, and the group of artists that were about to become known as Fluxus, including Joseph Beuys and Nam June Paik.

Prompted by the examples of Jean Tinguely and Robert Rauschenberg, Dieter Roth allowed himself enormous creative leeway. A staggeringly prolific polymath, Roth involved himself in printmaking, painting, sculpture, film and video, sound recording, photography, jewelry, and even architecture. The performative aspect of his work was teased out in collaborations with the Viennese Actionists Hermann Nitsch and Günter Brus; one featured a concert of howling dogs. Art and life are blurred in another piece, anticipating Rudolf Stingel, in which Roth's grubby studio floor was excised and mounted on a gallery wall, postulating that traces of the artist's quotidian shuffling and spilling are the equal of his conscious, manual, easel-bound activities. Roth's work possesses some of the neo-Dada characteristics of Pop art, but is as enmeshed with dissolution and decay as his American contemporaries were smitten with antiseptic consumerism.

Roth was also a member of Selten Gehorte Musik. The group has appeared with various formations over the years, releasing 6 records, in which participated Arnulf Rainer, Attersee, Dominik Steiger and Gunther Brus, Hermann Nitsch, Andre Thomkins and Bjorn Roth, Heinz Cibulka, Herbert Hossmann and Paul Renner.

Arnulf Rainer (born 8 December 1929, in Baden, Austria), is an Austrian painter and is internationally renowned for his abstract informal art. In his early years, Rainer was influenced by Surrealism. In 1950, he founded the Hundsgruppe (dog group) together with Ernst Fuchs, Arik Brauer, and Josef Mikl. After 1954, Rainer's style evolved towards Destruction of Forms, with blackenings, overpaintings, and maskings of illustrations and photographs dominating his later work. He was close to the Vienna Actionism, featuring body art and painting under drug influence. He did a lot of work on Hiroshima, after the bombing. In 1978, he received the Great Austrian National Prize. In the same year, and in 1980, he became the Austrian representative at the Venice Biennale. From 1981 to 1995, Rainer held a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna - the same place where he aborted his own studies after three days, unsatisfied. His works are shown in the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. As the culmination of the appraisal of his work, in 1993 the Arnulf Rainer Museum opened in New York City.
