DJ TENNIS Dj Kicks / 3x LP NEW VINYL / !K7 2017
Next up on DJ-Kicks is Life And Death label founder DJ Tennis. This is the unmixed triple vinyl release featuring 4 exclusive tracks, includes download card for full DJ Tennis DJ-Kicks Mix.
DJ Tennis is Manfredi Romano, a lifelong music fanatic who started out managing punk bands, progressed to putting on leftfield events, set up one of the most important Italian rock and electronic booking agencies, then started the Life And Death label. Since then Life and Death has launched acts like Tale of Us, Mind against and Vaal. Tennis’s own recorded output is selective and stylish, often featuring real melodies and a musicality that can be lacking in dance music. That knack for the musical and emotive side of things characterises both cerebral mixes he has put together here.
"Man achieves his tallest measure of serenity when surrounded by beauty," industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss once said. It's as true for what we listen to as it is for what we see and touch. By that measure, Manfredi Romano's contribution to the long-running DJ-Kicks series is hugely successful. That's no surprise, as the artist, AKA DJ Tennis, is one of clubland's go-to guys when it comes to moody and meditative atmosphere. Though the Life And Death cofounder's selections may not rival a view of, say, the Grand Canyon or the Cézanne wing of your local art museum, DJ-Kicks has a hushed elegance that's innately alluring.
