Description
Django Reinhardt´s very first release a with a catalogue number A 11018.
Django is misspelled on the labels as "Djungo" suggesting that it´s a pressing from 1934. Other pressings from 1934 were also misspelled the same way...
The two tracks are from Django Reinhardt and Quintette Du Hot Club De France very first recording session that took place in Paris 1934.
I have never seen this particular pressing offered for sale before...
RECORD CONDITION E (Excellent)
Record is in stunning shape for a 90 year old 78rpm! Shiny and glossy, almost like new! Couple of delicate signs of gramophone use, looks it has been played only one or two times! Plays great, have a listen to audio recording from the same record, link below. Comes with original sleeve in excellent condition!
ABOUT THE ULTRAPHON RECORD COMPANY
The name Ultraphon first appeared in 1925 as a German record label (Deutsche Ultraphon AG).
German Ultraphon declared bankruptcy in 1931. It had built up a network of distributors for their records in other European countries and established two branches for record production in Czechoslovakia and in France.
The French Ultraphone was born from the merger of the German Ultraphon and the Société Nobel Française in 1931.
The Chezh branch began to release records under the name of Ultraphon in 1933.
Django Reinhardt´s first records were released under the Ultraphone / Ultraphon labels in France and Czechoslovakia.
It appears that there were 3 different releases for the first press of "Dinah / Lady Be Good":
- Ultraphone - catalogue number AP 1422 (French release)
- Ultraphon - catalogue number B 14286 (Chezh release)
- Ultraphon - catalogue number A 11018 (Chezh release for French market?)
