rarest song version..... EVER!
Here's a remarkable find, a rare piece of our past. In December of '57 Danny & The Juniors released their new tune "At The Hop" on ABC Records. With help from Dick Clark and American Bandstand, the song would go all the way to #1.
But the story goes back ever before that. You might know that this single was originally released on the little Philadelphia label, Singular Records. That's still NOT what this is..... but it's close.
Did you ever hear the story of how Dick Clark heard the guys singing this song as "Do The Bop" and thought it was good, but was getting a little dated, as 'the bop' was going out of favor with the dancers on the show? He told them to select something else as a subject. Willing to change whatever was necessary for a hit, they got right back to Clark with the newly re-written song, "At The Hop."
For many years, the rumor of this ORIGINAL version of the song ran around in the collector's community. About a half dozen years ago, an tape of the original versions of BOTH sides of this remarkable single were found. A limited number of discs were pressed up and here it is.
This IS NOT a bootleg or repro single, as ABC had no claim on this recording that pre-dated their contract. This is simply a small run archival pressing of a remarkable song, in it's original, boppin' form. You won't believe it. You know it so well, but with these different lyrics, and the other singer..... it's amazing.
