COLUMBIA STEREO SAX 2369-2372


A rare and sought after recording by the Philharmonia orchestra conducted by Carlo Maria Gulini

With Eberhard Wachter Joan Sutherland, Luigi Alva, Gottlob Frick, Elisabeth  Schwarzkopf, Guiseppe Taddei, Piero Cappuccilli, Graziella Scutti

 

This is a Stereo pressing with the original Blue and silver labels together with the original emitex inners and two cardboard and two tissue paper protectors and light blue leaflet.The records themselves show no signs of ever having been played with no marks around the spindle holes of the labels which are clear and crisp. There are some light surface marks on the records where they have been in contact with the plastic of the emitex linners and there is one light 10mm scratch on side 5. I have played sides 5 and 6 for test purposes only and the scratch was not audible. They played very well with lovely dynamics and mostly silent but on acouple of occasions there was just a little bit of light surface noise. This means that together with those light marks I can only grade them as excellent

 

Overall I consider that these records have not been played (except the two sides I test played) but have been in storage for some time and would benefit from a professional clean.

 

The boxis the real let down here. All four edges have been in the wars showing heavy scuffs or tears. The spine is readable but the grey finishing has worn away in a few places with the fabric weave now visible. This is worse at the top where there is a 40mm stretch missing.

The top and bottom edges are scuffed. The outer edge has an 110mm  length torn away showing the cardboard underneath. The front of the box is quite good only let down by the bottom of the right hand edge.  The light blue leaflet is lightly foxed. Overall though the box can really only be graded as fair but please study the photos carefully.

 

So overall I would grade the records as excellent and the box as fair.

 

Please note I try and be as critical as possible when grading records and resist the temptation to use nr Mint or Exc- or other such descriptions and stick to the rare record price guide definitions. However there are still a subjective judgement and I can only report how they play on my system (Nottingham analogue space deck, space arm, grado sonata cartridge and Graham Slee SE2 phono amp) which may well be different to yours.

 

Needless to say this will be carefully packaged and sent recorded delivery.
