Henley embarked upon his solo career when The Eagles broke up in 1980 and had immediate success when he duetted with his girlfriend Stevie Nicks on her single Leather and Lace, which became a Top 10 US hit. His own debut album, 'I Can't Stand Still' (August 1982) only sold moderately, but the standout cut, Dirty Laundry, hit number 3 on the Billboard chart when released as a single, and sold in excess of a million copies in the USA alone. In concert, Henley would often dedicate the song to Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Other songs drawn from that album and given live workouts as part of this Live Concert recording include Them and Us, Lilah and Talking to the Moon. Don Henley's second solo record, 'Building The Perfect Beast' was released in November 1984 and included the haunting Boys Of Summer, a huge single hit on both sides of the Atlantic and a composition which remains a true '80s classic - for which he won a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. All She Wants To Do Is Dance, Sunset Grill and Not Enough Love In The World were also released as singles and all four were Billboard hits - the latter also notably covered by Cher in 1996. 'The Beast' is further liberally represented here via the inclusion of the title track, Drivin' With Your Eyes Closed, You Can't Make Love and You're Not Drinking Enough. Of course, Henley was duty bound to acknowledge his position in the best-selling US band of all time and thus includes two of The Eagles' greatest hits in his set: Desperado and Hotel California, both of which, of course, originally featured his own outstanding lead vocals, drawn from the 1973 and 1976 albums of which these classics are the title tracks. Don went on to have further major successes with his albums 'The End Of Innocence' (1989) and 'Inside Job' (2000), but this 1985 Live Concert recording remains testament of a golden period in this remarkable artist's astonishingly auspicious career.
