DONALD BYRD "Fuego" Blue Note "RVG," DG, P, Mono Vinyl
This is the first edition, 1960, RVG-stamped, Deep Groove, "P" pressing of DONALD BYRD's "Fuego" on the "47 West 63rd" labels of Blue Note BLP 4026. Musicians include Donald Byrd, Jackie McLean, Duke Pearson, Doug Watkins, Lex Humphries.
This VINYL plays with consistent low to loud level surface noise, but the instruments are very dynamic, with clear transients, very powerful and full of tone. Bass is surprisingly deep and distinct. No distortion. Occasional ticks. No skips. No warps. Both sides have good gloss. See photos. Many hairline marks on vinyl surface but no feelable scratches. "47 West 63rd" labels are clean with spindle wear under direct light. See photos.
LAMINATED COVER is in excellent condition. Corners worn. Spine and seam in excellent shape with minor cracking. Top right corner taped. See photos. "BLUE NOTE RECORDS INC., 43 West 61st St., New York 23" back jacket shows aging, water damaged at all sides but top. See photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end system consisting of Music Hall MMF-7.3 turntable/Ortofon Bronze cartridge, Heed Audio Elixir integrated amplifier, and Quad S2 speakers (with very revealing ribbon tweeters). Record cleaned on VPI 16.5.
