Description

XENOPHOBIA (i.e., "fear of outsiders") is apparently all the rage right now, what with border walls, detention camps and the deadly CV!  This record, from 1915, is proof that "outsiders" are ALWAYS among us, and can loyally be counted on in a crisis to be convenient scapegoats.  In this jolly little number, IRVING KAUFMAN sings the following immortal lyric:

If you don't like your Uncle Sammy

Then go back to your home o'er the sea;

To the land from where you came

Whatever be its name

But don't be ungrateful to me!

If you don't like the stars in Old Glory,

If you don't like the Red, White and Blue,

Then don't act like the cur in the story:

DON'T BITE THE HAND THAT'S FEEDING YOU!

(lyric by Thomas Hoier)

This, of course, is one of the records that subtly propagandized the run-up to World War I, and I must say, it WORKED.

The flip side, in utter contrast, has Kaufman joined by BILLY MURRAY, in "ARE YOU FROM DIXIE?" - a positive orgy of nostalgia and red-state bonding.

This original, 1915 "Bat Wing" Victor 17942 is in E condition.

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.
