What makes the LP Unique & Special

Unique Die-Cut “Window” Cover with curved corners

The original 1971 pressing had an elaborate sleeve design:

Rounded (curved) corners on the jacket                                                                                         Embossed “Doors” lettering
A die-cut window with clear acetate on the front
The band photo printed on the inner sleeve, visible through the window 

Elektra Executives Later decided reissues dropped the rounded corners and window because the packaging was very expensive to manufacture back in the 70’s.

The VERY Controversial Yellow “Crucifix” Inner Sleeve WHICH WAS ALMOST CENSORED.

Original copies included a bright yellow inner sleeve with:

The band photo (seen through the cover window)
A graphic of a woman crucified on a telephone pole on the reverse side

That artwork was controversial, and almost censored.  Having the original crucifix sleeve greatly increases collectability.

Historical Importance

The album itself is significant because:

Released April 1971

It became the final studio album recorded with singer Jim Morrison adding to collector value

Morrison died about 3 months after its release in Paris
This history makes these first pressings with curved corner covers highly collectible.

Dead-Wax Details

The exact dead-wax numbers you gave, indicated true early 1971 U.S. pressing of the album L.A. Woman by The Doors and matches the limited curved corner album.

Side A: EKS-75011  A CTH T1 + Artisan symbol

Side B: EKS-75011 B-1 CTH T1 + Artisan symbol

“CTH” = Terre Haute pressing plant

“CTH” means the record was pressed at Columbia Records’ pressing plant in Terre Haute, Indiana.

That plant produced many first-run Elektra releases in 1971, so this is considered a very early pressing.

“T1” = first stamper batch

“T1” indicates an early stamper from the Terre Haute plant. These were typically from the first metal parts used for production in the production process.

“B-1” on Side B

The B-1 indicates the first lacquer cut of side B as completed by record engineer a step in the making process prior to the actual vinyl pressings, which again points to very early production.  Simply put the prior printing plates were made as as lacquer cuts for the actual vinyl pressing of the LP.

Artisan Sound Recorders logo

The small circular symbol in the dead-wax (looks like a drum or two circles) is the Artisan Sound Recorders mastering mark.

This may or may not be first pressing but regardless is highly collectible with rounded corners.

That means the record was mastered at Artisan in Los Angeles, which is where the album was originally cut. Early copies commonly have this mark. These are liked by collectors because they feel they usually sound better than later recuts.
