Description
According to Google AI, this vintage "Victor Musical Smart Set" album titled "Doubling on the Ivories" features music by pianists Arthur Whittemore and Jack Lowe. This is a 78 RPM record set that is supposed to contain four 10-inch shellac discs, but the last record is missing from this set. The catalog number is P 149. The album showcases the duo's signature style of "easy listening" arrangements that blended classical and popular music. The track list includes several well-known standards: Side A: Begin the Beguine (Cole Porter), South American Way, If I Should Lose You, Temptation, The Neurotic Goldfish (Alec Wilder), Night and Day (Cole Porter). Whittemore and Lowe became one of the most successful duo-piano teams in the mid-20th century, known for their "breezy flair" and million-selling recordings.
The cardboard book has considerable wear especially around the edges, but the spine is intact. There is foxing on the inside front cover, but the brown paper record holders are in good condition. The actual black vinyl records have scratches and record two (sides 3 and 4) is missing a chunk along the edge (see photos 7 and 9). Also, this should be a four-record set, but the fourth record is missing. I have not played them so unsure how they sound. Examine photos closely.
