Dr. Strangely Strange : Heavy Petting 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st press 1970 Vertigo w/ Gimmix Cover

This very collectable first pressing plays to an incredible standard with barely any intrusion and S2 in particular is absolutely stunning!  S1 just has a couple of light clicks and a couple of ticks but again the rest of the side plays with genuine quality.  In a sense what's impressive about this album considering the number of quiet sections is the sheer lack of static, the clarity of sound is phenomenal across both sides.

The famous gimmix cover is the finest example I have ever seen.  The die-cut sections / flaps are in fantastic condition without any wear and it has only a little rubbing on the bottom edge.  The original Vertigo inner is in very good condition with only a little wear.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy look with no obvious marks or scratches.  Under a bright light you can see some faint hairlines but they are superficial as they have no impact on the superb audio.  There is no groove wear or 'bag rash' and the Vertigo labels are very clean with only some spindle wear.

Play grading

The acoustic intro on 'Ballad Of The Wasps' plays with perfect clarity and Booth's opening vocal is just as clear.  The first chorus again has no intrusion and neither does the following instrumental.  It continues in the same precise way and the acapella vocal / spoken section keeps up the standard.  To the final note there is no background and this is without doubt a Mint start to the album.  A very easy grade to give.

'Summer Breeze' again shows how well this vinyl has been preserved and plays with stunning precision from start to finish.  Featuring Gary Moore on guitar it just could not play any better.  I've just realised Moore was only 18 when this was recorded!  Mint

'Kilmanoyadd Stomp' begins perfectly but then has two dull ticks either side of a click just as you get into the opening vocal.  From then on normal service is resumed and the clarity cannot be faulted in any way.  So VG at the start for three seconds and Mint from then onwards.

'I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes' again plays so clearly with only one minor static towards the end and just a hint of static distortion on the final vocal which lasts for all of two seconds.  Near Mint

The intro on 'Sign On My Mind' plays beautifully and the opening the opening vocal section is close to perfect with just one light click followed by a dull tick right at the end.  The long whistle instrumental plays to perfection with not even a single dust tick and Moore's next excursion is just as impressive.  It's a long solo and wow does it play well!  Great power and definition.  The final vocal section is perfect as is the fade out.  Difficult to grade in a sense because 99% does play with sublime precision but overall I think Near Mint- is an honest appraisal of the audio which isn't bad for a 54 year old track running at over 8 minutes!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

'Gave My Love An Apple' plays with exceptional clarity from the get go.  The intro has only a couple of barely audible dust ticks and the opening vocal section is flawless.  As the volume increases there is no drop in quality and once again you can only admire just how clean and precise the audio is - there is no background static and I cannot stress enough just how immaculate the playback is.  As per Dr. Strangely Strange there are a number of quiet sections and yet the clarity is incredible and the more powerful sections play with stunning accuracy also.  More work from Moore again.  This is Mint- at the very least.

'Jove Was At Home' and 'When Adam Delved' both play with remarkable clarity and warmth with no sign of any background.  'As new' sum them up perfectly - every section plays with a sonic quality that is second to none and I have no hesitation in grading them as Mint

The super quiet intro on 'Ashling' plays to perfection and Booth's opening vocal is just as strong.  It continues in the same precise way with literally no intrusion on the audio not even during the more powerful vocal section at the end.  One of the longer tracks on the album and again Mint is fully deserved.  When I mean no background I mean no background!!

'Mary Malone Of Moscow' plays with unrivalled quality from start to finish with no interference.  The clarity, depth and power of the audio is 10/10 and I cannot find one single negative.  One of the more powerful numbers and yet there is zero distortion on the top end.  Mint

The brief 'Goodnight My Friends' ends the album with supreme audio once more.  No ticks, clicks, pops or static just pure crystal clear audio from the first note to the last.  A Mint conclusion to this fine album.

The Gatefold & Vertigo Inner Sleeve

The gimmix cover as stated is easily the best example I have ever seen because it rarely has no damage on the two die-cut sections - not rips or tears and no creasing either on any of the edges.  The only real wear is some rubbing on the two bottom edges where the two flaps fold around to the back cover.  This is actually the 'main' spine so it does mean it isn't fully legible but the rest of the cover is stunning!  The top opening edge has only very minimal handling wear and the left and right edge are extremely clean. The corners have only a little wear.  Once you open the die-cut sections the front cover is superb order and the reverse side of the right flap has just one minor white 'line'.  The back cover is just very slightly wavy (very minor!) and has minimal wear on the corners and just one very small faint crease top left.  A superb example and like I say rarely found in this condition today.

The Vertigo inner sleeve (dated 0470) has no side splits or tears and has very little marking.  It has some creasing and only a little age related fading.  It looks like the original poly-liner has been replaced at some point.

Postage & Packaging

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
