DOMESTIC $ 5 PLUS $1 EACH RECORD INTERNATIONAL $ 21 PLUS $ 7 EACH RECORD They were fairly early on the scene of obscure NWOBHM acts that played this genre. Their only official release; by this London act was a 4 song effort. Luckly Phoenix Records released those songs along with four demos from 1982.
TOP songs first is ‘Mercy’ which comes packaged along with that distinctively NWOBHM Sabbath-y tone and approach, laced with some nice guitar licks to spruce things up. I am fond of the guitar lead, which is coupled with fancy bass scales underneath, just giving it that bit more pomp. Another guitar lead that follows is of typical NWOBHM fashion, with an almost early Maiden-ish twang to it, before an abrupt end to the track. ‘Mercy’ has a dark quality with it’s bass laden sound, and dark imagery in the lyrics, somewhat in the vein of ‘Sabbath. Next is Spacebound’ a heartfelt slower number, which performs as a bit of a vocal showcase of band frontman Rudi Riviere. It’s a bit psychedelic as the name suggests, typical of the NWOBHM approach to this type of number. There’s some deepness to the track, with the guitars that kick in around 3: 20 having some particular emotiveness to them. This band, like several other NWOBHM acts, seems to pride itself on lengthy guitar lead passages, which isn’t a bad thing. Some doubled up guitars at the end give the track a powerful finish, and is an example of some pretty damn good song-writing by Riviere. Then ‘Disappear From View’ is your more energetic NWOBHM track, as is ‘Silent Nights’ much of the same. . All- round a listenable effort by this obscure London act there’s a handful of good touches which perk up the material a bit here-and-there, such as some good boogie guitar lead in ‘Silent Nights’, which delivers an excellent NWOBHM EP with this one. Dragonfly has a blues-heavy sound that – given the date – is still deeply rooted in 70’s rock and boogie-type music. The four demo tracks wont let you down . a bit more unpolished but still killer NWOBHM. NEEDLESS TO SAY WITH ONLY 350 PRESSED VERY HARD TO FIND . ESP MINT RECORD
