Ducks Deluxe were part of the London pub rock scene. They formed in August 1972
and soon got a residency at the Tally Ho twice a week. After signing to RCA
they cut a debut album in 1974, which was well received. Ken Whaley departed
to rejoin Help Yourself in December 1972. He was later in Man. With the addition of Scotsman
Andy McMasters, who'd previously been in The Sabres, they recorded a second album.
With the band's fortunes on a downward edge Nick Garvey, who'd once been
The Flamin' Groovies road manager, departed to form Snakes. McMasters also
left and was later in The Motors with Nick Garvey. The remaining three soldiered
on with the addition of Micky Groome, who'd once been in The Nashville Teens,
but they were dropped by RCA and reduced to recording an EP, Jumpin' on Skydog.
Former Brinsley Schwarz members Brinsley Schwarz and Billy Rankin supplemented
the band in their final months. On the Continent they had built up a good following
but their recording career was going nowhere and they finally called it a day
in the Summer of 1975.Sean Tyla went on to form The Tyla Gang, who also
included Ken Whaley. Brinsley Schwarz and Martin Belmont went
on to play for Graham Parker and The Rumour...(Tapestry of Delights)

assisted by Barry Ruffell at Saturn. Mixed at Island Studios,

The Ducks Deluxe's debut record may be the pinnacle of the pub rock genre.
Its 12 cuts hold up as exciting, textbook rock & roll, released at a time when
mainstream rock had forsaken its roots. Ducks Deluxe is filled with minor classics,
from the driving "Don't Mind Rockin' Tonite" and "Coast to Coast,"
to the New Orleans R&B of "Daddy Put the Bomp."...(AllMusic)
