DUKE PEARSON “Wahoo!” RVG, P, Blue Note 4191 Mono Vinyl
This is the 1964, first edition, “Van Gelder” stamped, “P”-pressing of DUKE PEARSON’s “Wahoo!” on the "New York USA” labels of Blue Note BLP 4191. Musicians include Duke Pearson, Donald Byrd, James Spaulding, Joe Henderson, Bob Cranshaw, Mickey Roker.
VINYL Side 1, plays beautifully overall, with very low level surface noise in spots. Last track side 1, increased ticks and pops. Side 2 also plays well, with more frequent pops and ticks. Ensemble sections are clear, dynamic and strong with clean transients, powerful extension and full tone. NO distortion. NO skips. As with all first pressing Blue Notes, the brilliantly performed and pressed music overcomes surface imperfections. Very good gloss. Handful of hairline marks, a couple feelable. The “New York USA” labels are very clean with spindle marks under direct light. See photos.
COVER is in good condition, corners worn, 1/7th inch (from corner) wrinkle on front. Top seam split on both ends. Spine cracking but not split. Bottom seam splitting 1”at ends, otherwise clean. “BLUE NOTE RECORDS, 43 West 61st St., New York 23” back jacket shows minor wear, a couple tears at top border, otherwise clean. Please see photos.
This LP was play-tested on a high-end audio system. RECORD CLEANED ON VPI 16.5 VINYL CLEANER.
