Description
Limited Edition set of re-issued 78 rpm records by Historic Masters. Known as the Cumberland Place Recordings, made at Melba's London home in 1904. These are vinyl 78 rpm records which are re-made from the earliest surviving masters of Melba's first records. The set also includes a CD issued alongside the 78 originals. These records must of course be played on suitable 78 equipment and specify suggested correct speeds so a turntable with variable speed is preferable and a modern cartridge with appropriate 78 rpm stylus. The fascimile discs include all the flaws of the found originals but if you take the trouble to play them at the correct speed on appropriate equipment they provide some of the best clues as to the brilliance and splendour of Melba's voice near her prime. I think this set was issued in 2008. I have played some of the discs. All in excellent condition.
