MEGA-RARE 1959 UK LONDON MONO LP HA-S 2202
matrix numbers: AYL-1146-1B & AYL-1147-1B
with original rounded flipback sleeve date-stamped McN10.59 (showing this to be a very early pressing indeed)

SLEEVE in VERY GOOD++ condition
A MEGA-RARE item. This never appears for sale and is an absolute "must-have" item for Doowop/Rock 'n' Roll collectors. The vinyl is in very nice EX- condition, playing extremely well with absolutely no playing problems, and with light surface marks only and only a couple of short, light scratches. The labels are excellent and show no major wear. The sleeve is a fine example, solid and complete, and has no major damage. They usually turn up covered in tape, torn or with segments missing, but not in this case. The rear is very clean and white and the rounded flipback is complete and really, apart from light wrinkling, there is no serious damage to note. The original record store sticker is still to be found to the sleeve rear. A fine example of a very rare record.
The son of a tenant farmer in Tennessee, the singer-guitarist was among several rockabilly performers to emerge from Memphis' famed Sun Studios whose fast-paced tunes and twangy lyrics would influence dozens of rockers to come, including the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton. At the same time that Perkins was helping launch rock music from his country roots, Chuck Berry's machine-gun guitar licks were reinventing the Blues as rock and roll. The two are acknowledged as perhaps the key figures in the birth of rock music in the late 1950s. John Lennon once said ``there was no music before Sun (Studios),'' and the Beatles would record three Perkins songs after meeting him at a 1964 recording session -- ``Honey Don't,'' ``Matchbox,'' and ``Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby.'' Before Presley turned ``Blue Suede Shoes'' into the first song to simultaneously top the pop, country and rhythm and blues charts, Perkins received his first dose of stardom when he recorded it in 1956 and sold two million copies in the USA.
