Description
Dark Side of the Moon This is one of the first! I bought this on the morning it was released in the record shop in Little Clarendon Street in Oxford. Back-opening gatefold sleeve, with black polythene-lined inner sleeve (creased and with a small tear), with Patent Nos 1125555 and 1072844 and 'Made in Great Britain' printed in pale blue; the polythene liner is creased and is coming loose. Label has solid blue triangle, and the matrix stamps are 'SHVL 804 A-2' and 'SHVL 804 B-2'. Side one is also stamped 'G H' and side two is stamped (I think) 'T D' (though I am not sure about the 'T'. I have the two posters (blue pyramids), but I DO NOT HAVE the stickers any longer - not sure what happened to them, but somewhere over the past 36 years they have disappeared.. The whole has been kept in a gatefold plastic sleeve pretty much from new, so the cover is in good condition. There is some inevitable damage to the corners, but this is minor, and there is some scuffing to the right-hand edge of the front cover, and to the opening where the lp goes in. The plastic sleeve is showing its age and starting to split and discolour, but I haven't replaced it as it has the original round 'Dark Side of the Moon' sticker attached in the top right corner. Look at the photos, where I have tried to show as much as possible of the various bits of damage that the album has accrued over the years. The vinyl itself is in good condition. It has been well played (I have been a Pink Floyd fan since Arnold Layne), but it has been looked after and played on decent gear, so it does not have too much in the way of surface degradation. There are pops and crackles, but nothing too intrusive, and certainly nothing that will make it skip and jump. There are a some visible marks on the surface - at the beginning of 'Breathe' and a couple on 'Money', but they cause no significant audible problems, and a professional clean would most likely remove them. I have to say that I got this out today to see how well it played (and also got out the trusty old Thorens TD165 with Ortofon VMS20E to play it on) and I was amazed at how good it sounds - it somehow just seems more alive than the digital remastered versions on CD). Anyway, space and economics dictate that it has to go, so .. Note that you can collect from Suffolk (IP6) at weekends or London (E1) during the week, but I still require Paypal payment on conclusion of the auction.
