This is Darrell Banks-"Just Because Your Love Is Gone/I'm The One Who Loves You". This is one of his more valuable recordings, on the Stax subsidiary, Volt records, and was one of two which were his last recordings. Banks was born in Ohio, but grew up in Buffalo, NY. He sang in church before going secular, when he began singing at local joints. His break came with a song called "Open the Door to Your Heart." The tune was really written by a buddy named Donnie Elbert and was called, "Baby Walk Right In," although Banks had changed the tempo, renamed it and claimed he was the writer. A law suit ensued, and Elbert won, but by that time Banks version had charted, peaking at #2 on the R&B chart, and #27, on the Billboard Hot 100. Banks had recordings on the Revilot, ATCO, Cotillion, and Volt labels. The two releases on Volt, including this one(neither of which charted), were his last recordings. He was shot and killed by an off duty policeman, in 1970, in Detroit, Michigan. The policeman was seeing Banks girlfriend, who was trying to break up with Banks. Banks was waiting for the two of them, as they arrived at her house. He grabbed the girl, and when the policeman intervened, Banks pulled a gun. The policeman ended Banks career, with deadly force.
The record is Very Good Plus Plus..The vinyl is nice and glossy but there are a few light marks on both sides. There is also a stain in the entry grooves,on both sides, maybe from a sleeve it had been in. It plays through that area with a couple of slight clicks. Listen to the clips to hear the quality. The volume control for the mp3 player is just to the right of the red time numbers.
I owned a record store, which specialized in Oldies, Hard-to-find, and collectible Records, in the 1970's and 1980's. I purchased many collections, during that time, from DJs, collectors, and record label reps. Tthis is part of the inventory I retained, when I sold the store, in 1987.
